Hundreds of families forced off their land in the Karoo by the apartheid government in the 1960s would be compensated, the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform said yesterday.

The families include those removed from Waterford and Jansenville, said minister Gugile Nkwinti’s spokesman, Mtobeli Mxotwa.

A seven member Ikwezi Municipality Local Tourism Organization (LTO) has started with the objective of providing better services to visitors and stakeholders and to better promote the area as a tourism destination. Chairperson , Pauline van Zyl explained how, after much research and wide consultation, her committee applied for a R130 000 loan from the Cacadu District Municipality, “To start with the work of beautifying the historical sites in our area and marketing the attractions in our area more effectively.” Continue reading »
